Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan: Updates, issues, and fixes

After Yosemite, Apple released its next operating systems for Mac: Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan. With latest release 10.11.4 (15E65) on March 21, 2016 and latest preview of 10.11.5 Beta 2, El Capitan is ready to stun its Apple users and offer them better control over their Mac devices.

Unlike 10.11.3 version of El Capitan, the El Capitan 10.11.4 beta enjoys a new feature which allows users to view and share Live Photos through Messages. It seems tiny but this update will let users view their Live Photos after they are captured on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Before this, Live Photos has caused problems while being viewed or shared on a Mac. And the issue was concerned with the loss of audio and video at times. Live Photos is a new iPhone feature that captures a brief video clip before and after shooting of any photo you take. From February 2016, users can take Live Photos with the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus and view them on any device run with iOS 9 or OS X El Capitan.


Apple’s latest update is available to download as a standalone update (6.19GB download size). It is an update from El Capitan 10.11.2 which can be directly downloaded from Mac using System Preferences > App Store and then choosing ‘Install OS X updates’. El Capitan 10.11.3 update is known for enhancing the Mac constancy, compatibility, and security. The new update addresses the issue of Mac computers’ inability to wake from sleep being connected to certain 4K displays. Now, Enterprise users can retain their 3rd party .pkg file receipts be stored and saved in /var/db/receipts, while OS X is upgraded from OS X Yosemite. It is also a security update for the OS and Safari 9.0.3 that deal with fixing bugs than adding new features.

OS X 10.11.2 El Capitan ensures enhancements to Wi-Fi reliability, Handoff and Airdrop. It solves issue with Bluetooth device connectivity, Mail and Exchange interact, and photos importing from an iPhone to a Mac. After first update to OS X El Capitan, Apple says that OS X El Capitan Update 10.11.1 improves compatibility for users of Microsoft Office 2016. The update also fixes issues in Mail and installation process problems. Some Apple users also complain of issues with iBooks in El Capitan after the update was installed. To resolve the issue, log out of the iBooks store first and then log back in. Try Deauthorize if the same doesn’t work, then Re-authorize iBooks on your Mac. Finally, quit iBooks and then relaunch the app.
